![]() ![]() I hated the Kids' Choice Awards but I remember sitting through the entire thing because they said for weeks the premiere of the first ever Spongebob episode would be aired after it was over. Even being 10 or so when Spongebob came out, I remember clearly that Nick marketed the fuck out of that show. ![]() Not to say that they didn't have amazing cartoons, but not one that any age and any gender would get a significant amount of pleasure from. and channels like Disney or Cartoon Network didn't really have any cartoons that could appeal to such a broad audience at the time like Spongebob could. And shows that can appeal to both adults and children alike are often very successful, a similar example would be Adventure Time (another favorite of mine).Īnd this is my own opinion, based off a foggy memory of the Nickelodeon timeline, but Spongebob came out right towards the end or decline of a lot of Nickelodeon classics like Rugrats, Doug, Hey Arnold, Rocket Power, Ah! Real Monsters, etc. ![]() There are jokes for the older viewers littered across every episode. He laughs when Spongebob eats a bucket of his own hands while hearing the tale of the Hash Slinging Slasher, I laugh when you find out the cause for the flickering lights was Nosferatu. It's the type of show that my seven-year-old brother and I can watch together, though I'd be lying if I said I don't sometimes watch it willingly when I'm alone. I own the first three seasons and the movie. This is basically going to be a rant that is all over the place, but I just love this show so much it's hard for me to narrow down my thoughts into something that even resembles cohesion. ![]()
